LADY OAKS VOLLEYBALL

OCU Keeps Rolling at Mid-Continent

The Lady Oaks made short work of Mid-Continent 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-17) Monday night in Mayfield, Kentucky. Paced by Glenna Jolliff's nine kills with no errors, Brittany Negley's nine kills and Courtney Paro's 33 assists, OCU improved to an impressive 12-2 on the season.

Tiffany Potter led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while Leigh Ann Kluesner added five block assists and two solo blocks.

The Lady Oaks are back in action at Kentucky Wesleyan on October 11.

Lady Oaks Sweep Midway

Coach Karen Adams' Volleyball squad upped their record to 11-2 with a workman-like victory over Midway College Saturday afternoon in the Johnson Center. Senior Courtney Paro dished out 27 assists and added five kills in another fine performance from the Sellersburg, Indiana native.

Junior Emily Prewitt counted for eight kills to lead the attack, with senior Alicia Clarke serving four aces for OCU. Senior Tiffany Potter led the defensive effort with eight digs.

The Lady Oaks are in action on the road Monday in Mayfield, Kentucky to play Mid-Continent.


OCU PULLS OUT FIVE SET WIN OVER IUS

The Lady Oaks came from 2-1 down to pull out sets four and five for an exciting an important win over IU-Southeast in the Johnson Center Tuesday night. Paced by setter Courtney Paro's 42 assists and six kills without an error, OCU brought their overall season record to an impressive 10-2.

Also playing important roles in the victory were Emily Prewitt with 12 kills, Brittany Negley with 12 kills, 16 digs and four aces, Emily Andrews with 11 kills and Glenna Jolliff with six blocks.

OCU is back in action at 1pm on Saturday, October 4th when Midway visits the Johnson Center.


 

LADY OAKS LOSE 5 SET HEARTBREAKER TO LINCOLN CHRISTIAN

Despite a 24 kill perfromance from junior Brittany Negley and 42 assists from senior setter Courtney Paro, Lincoln Christian won the last three sets to hand the Lady Oaks their second straight loss after winning their first eight.

The sets scored; 25-23, 25-23, 18-25, 24-26, 10-15

 

OCU Goes 3-1 at Taylor - Fort Wayne Tournament

The Lady Oaks continued their winning ways by winning thier first three matches at the Taylor - Fort Wayne Tournament this weekend, before eventually falling to Purdue North Central in a 5 set thriller. The weekend brought OCU's record to 8-1 on the season under first year coach Karen Adams.

The Women defeated Rochester College 3-1, Robert Morris-Springfield 3-0 and Taylor Fort Wayne 3-1. Their sole loss was a heartbreaking 3-2 cliffhanger (18-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 13-15).

Libero Tiffany Potter and Outside Hitter Emily Andrews were named to the All-Tournament Team.


LADY OAKS SWEEP BRESCIA

OCU traveled to Owensboro to pick up a straight-set win over the host Brescia Lady Bearcats. The Lady Oaks dominated the first two sets 25-14 and 25-15, while holding on for a 25-21 third set for the sweep. Junior Emily Prewitt paced OCU with 10 kills, five aces and three blocks. Senior Courtney Paro handed out 22 assists.

Karen Adams' squad is back in action Saturday afternoon against St. Catherine College at St. Catherine, Kentucky.


 

Karen Adams Era Kicks Off with a Win!

The Lady Oaks welcomed new Coach Karen Adams with a win by dispatching Robert Morris-Springfield in straight sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-23). Senior Setter Courtney Paro dished out 24 assists for a balanced offensive attack. Junior Brittany Negley led with nine kills and 19 digs and fellow junior Emily Andrews added 6 kills.

The Lady Oaks head to Owensboro on Friday to face Brescia. The match starts at 7:00pm.

Karen Adams Named Volleyball Coach

Karen Adams has been named the head Volleyball Coach to lead the Lady Oaks in the 2008 campaign. Adams comes to OCU after a successful stint on the club level at Florida Gold Coast and as a volunteer assistant at NCAA Division II Lynn University.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Movement Science from Barry University in Miami Shores, FL. She also earned 45 semester hours of graduate mathematics and psychology from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. Adams earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics, with a minor in psychology, from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS. She has been teaching college algebra as an adjunct professor at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL for the past 2 years.

As a player, Adams played for one year at Garden City Community College as a defensive specialist. She was named Honorable Mention All-Jahawk Conference and Academic All-NJCAA. She played 3 years at Southwestern College and received awards such as: Most Inspirational Player, Academic All-NAIA, and Team Captain. She stayed on an extra year at Southwestern College to be a student assistant coach.

Coach Adams says, "I came to Oakland City University to embrace the qualities of a small Christian university reminding me of my alma mater, Southwestern College. I enjoy the family-style atmosphere of this campus along with the high emphasis on academics that OCU brings to the table. I am excited to lead these wonderful young ladies to accomplishing all their goals: spiritually, academically, and athletically."

Adams inherits a team with 11 returnees. The Lady Oaks start the 2008 season on September 8 against Robert Morris-Springfield, in the Johnson Center.
