What is the SSS First Year Experience?
This program provides a forum for discussion and introduction of topics that are relevant to first semester freshmen at OCU. It is structured as a short (approximately 30 to 60 minutes) weekly meeting for the first half of the fall semester.
Why should students participate?
The SSS FYE helps freshmen to understand the challenges of adjusting to college life. Students gain a great deal of information related to the following topics:
| Studying |
Planning for a career |
| GPA and how to calculate |
Finances in college |
| Test taking strategies |
People at OCU |
| Social life in college |
Using technology |
| Campus rules |
The academic advisement process |
| Writing strategies |
How do students become involved?
Within the first two weeks of the fall semester, all freshman SSS participants are asked to register and attend weekly FYE sessions. For questions concerning FYE, please stop by the SSS office.
