Participating students get to know one another and this interaction is often a key to first-year success at Oakland City University. Also, sharing experiences
with individuals with varied backgrounds, academic majors, and interests helps students to awaken to the variety of perspectives in society and better adjust to the world around them. Finally, it is never too early to begin thinking about life following college. As many employers utilize mentors for new employees, exposure to such a system provides participating students with an advantage as they can list participation in the program (whether as a
Mentor or Mentee) on a professional resume.
How much does it cost students?
NOTHING!
How do students become involved?
All freshmen who are also Student Support Service clients are asked to participate in the program. Participating students are contacted within the first two weeks
of the fall semester and invited to an initial meeting. At this point, each group will decide upon what types of activities they would like to participate in and when they would like these activities to be held.
Who can be a Mentor?
Those students who successfully participate in the Student Support Services Peer Mentor program as freshmen are welcome to apply to be a Mentor in subsequent years. Simply contact Student Support Services for more information @ 812.749.1273.
