Teachers' Licenses
The School of Education is the officially designated unit for
the design, approval, and continuous evaluation and development of teacher
education programs at Oakland City University. As a potential professional,
the candidate who pursues a teaching license is held to high standards.
The candidate's curriculum is rigorous and demanding.
Teacher License Information
Oakland City University School of Educationis accredited by
the IPSB and NCATE to offer approved programs in elementary (early childhood,
middle childhood) junior high/middle school (early adolescence), secondary
(adolescence/young adulthood) and all-grade education. Approved program
curricula outline four years of work leading to the appropriate degree,
are standards based, and are designed to meet the requirements for licensure.
Admissions to the University does not
guarantee admission to a teacher education program and admission to
a teacher education program does not insure admission to student teaching.
Candidates graduating with a baccalaureate
degree and teacher licensure must have a 2.50 grade point average overall
and a 2.50 grade point average in the license area major as well as
the courses in professional education.
Candidates in the Elementary (early childhood,
middle childhood), Junior High/Middle School (early adolescence), Secondary
(adolescence/young adulthood), and All-Grade Education licensure programs
are limited to four Pass/No Fail option courses. However, no Pass/Fail
options may be taken in professional education, major areas, freshman
English or Senior Seminar courses.

New! Now applying for a license is easier. The Division of Professional Standards has developed an online system for application and processing of licenses. No longer do applicants have to complete several documents. See the link below for more information about the process. The current plan is to eliminate paper applications for all actions that can be completed using TOLS on February 1, 2009. After this date, the Office of Educator Licensing and Development will only accept paper applications that have been pre-approved by the division and will take these requests on a case-by-case basis. Once this has been implemented, exceptions will be rare.
