Master of Science in Education

The 48-credit curriculum Master of Science in Education – School Counseling will include a range of required courses on relevant, critical topics identified in the CACREP Standards for School Counselors. This program will apply Indiana’s Rules for Educator Preparation and Accountability (REPA 3) standards, IDOE – School Counselor Standards, and ASCA-CAEP SPA to prepare candidates to pass Indiana’s CORE School Counseling Assessment. Additionally, this program will prepare candidates to pass the National Counselor Exam (NCE). The clinical experience will include two (2) internship courses totally 700 hours of supervised internship experience to prepare graduates to gain practical knowledge and to gain an advanced K-12 license in school counseling. For the master’s thesis, school counseling candidates will research, create, and deliver special programs or curriculum on topics that can make an impact. Pertinent topics such as, abuse, divorce, bullying, drugs and alcohol, suicide, and family issues. Oakland City University has received wide-spread support from southern Indiana school corporations. School Counselor Indiana Praxis Assessment Preparation (CES 611) course is a comprehensive review designed to assist school counseling students prepare for the Praxis School Counselor (5421) licensing exam. This course must be taken (and passed) in the semester immediately preceding the internship courses (CES 698 and CES 699). This course is Pass/Fail course

The Master of Science (M.S. Ed.) Building Level Administration (BLA) program is for the teacher wishing to continue their professional development in the educational environment. The Building Level Administration licensure program is designed for applicants who have completed a baccalaureate degree in a teaching field and hold a current teaching license. This degree is for those who are seeking advanced study and administrative licensure. It is designed to be an induction model for new principals and a continuing professional education model for experienced educators who seek additional skills, dispositions, and knowledge outside their content area.

The Master of Science in Education Curriculum and Instruction (C & I) is designed for applicants who have completed a baccalaureate degree in a teaching field. It is intended to be a professionalizing model for practicing teachers, as well as those aspiring to teach at the college level. This program does not lead to licensure.
