Freshman Requirements
To apply as a freshman you must meet one of the following:
  • You’re a current high school student and have completed or you are completing your junior year in high school.
  • You’ve graduated high school and have not attended another college since graduating.
  • You’ve completed Indiana’s School Equivalency (HSE) or (GED) and have not enrolled in any colleges.
GPA Requirements:
GPA Requirement (based on a 4.0 GPA scale) Admissions Decision
2.70 or higher Automatic Admitted Decision
2.0 – 2.69 Automatic Conditional Admitted Admission
1.99 and below Automatic Denial
HSE or GED All subject areas Passed

Submit Application Materials

This may include:

  • High school transcripts: An unofficial transcript will be accepted to review your application for acceptance. An official transcript must be received before you can start class.
  • Dual credit transcripts: Receiving credit for dual credit courses taken during high school is done by sending an official transcript from the awarding institution directly to OCU. *NOTE: You will want to wait to order this transcript until all courses have been completed and final grades have been posted.
  • AP test scores: OCU accepts AP test scores of a 3 or higher on most test areas. Submit your official AP test scores through the College Board directly to OCU. *NOTE: You will want to wait to order your test scores until all tests have been completed and final scores have been posted.
  • Test Optional: If you do not meet the Automatic Admission criteria please submit your SAT scores (1585) and/or ACT scores (1228)

What Does Test-Optional Mean for You?

Oakland City University believes in taking a holistic approach when considering a student for admission.    In some instances, test scores can tell a portion of a student’s story but in others, the scores do not represent the success of some students.  So, rather than solely basing our decision on ACT or SAT scores we believe that the value is in the student and consider your strengths in other areas.  By taking this approach Oakland City University is furthering their commitment to increase diversity and inclusion while providing an affordable quality education.

Transitioning from high school to college can be tough, but at OCU you will have a Success Community to help you through it all. Success Communities consist of a small group of fellow freshmen that meet regularly with a staff mentor who will help you discover your unique gifts, connect you with fun and fulfilling service opportunities, and answer any questions you have as you make new friends.
